Toddler activities: playing with numbers with sea themed activities

Toddler activities: playing with numbers with sea themed activities
I'm really, really excited to share a few sea themed toddler activities. I finally got around to making one of the many felt crafts I have in mind for our Tot School adventures. Even though I am still going to tweak it a bit, I was so excited to get it out for the Toddler!

I made a sun, a small treasure chest with a gold treasure, and some seaweed made from ribbon. The numbers, I cut from felt, but didn't glue them down so we can use this board for multiple activities. I'm still going to add some removable clouds with rain drops (thick string with beads), and more seaweed.

We used this board to practice numbers, and also to talk about the sea creatures we were using. I had both little fish and crab, so we took turns putting them on the board, and counting them.

First though, the Toddler enjoyed exploring the board before we got started with practicing our numbers.

As the Toddler explored, I tried to reinforce the new vocabulary that we are working on this week - crab, fish, sea, water, blue.

As you can see in this photo, a lot of our morning Tot School activities are done in pajamas. That's a fun benefit of homeschooling - anywhere can be a classroom, and you don't have to change out of your pjs to learn or teach!

For our counting activities, I set up two bowls - one with little fish, and the other with crabs. We started out by placing the respective quantity of animals under each number, and then practiced counting to three with the numbers.

Eventually, this turned into a sorting game. I dumped all of the animals out on the table, and the Toddler arranged them into two separate bowls. Then, he grabbed the extra little stars that I had secured in the treasure chest, and added them to our sorting fun.

And then, we really amped up the fine motor skills practice by adding some fun tweezers to our fun.

The toddler didn't really enjoy using them as tweezers, but loved pour the stars into the little bug at the top. I was very impressed with his ability to pick up the stars!

That's all for our exploring the sea felt board play! Today, I am linking up with Emma at P is for Preschooler
