Nuts & Bolts Tot School

This week, I am really, really excited to be sharing a special unit! This is a Nuts and Bolts, or Tools unit that I made with help from a friend of mine: Veronica who is a vlogger over at V Loves Stationery, Natural Living, Homeschooling, & Thrifting

I made a pretty big ole pack of printables with older kiddos in mind, which means you can find some writing practice, ending sound matching activities, and loads of addition, greater than less than works, and fun math practice on top of the normal printables I make with size sorting, 3 part cards, and numbers cards that can even be used for tot school. To see how Veronica used these printables with for homeschooling her four year old, check out her video here

To see how I used these printables to make activities for my two year old, look below for toddler inspiration!

The nuts and bolts were actually pretty small, and I really enjoyed watching my kiddo try to attach them!

Free play

I am pretty much obsessed with wooden toys. Naturally, it made sense to put these onto our shelves:

Mr Toddler? He looooved playing with his wooden tools! My hubby and I are planning (very optimistically hoping to have time) to build a wooden tool station for the holidays for the Mr Toddler. It depends on how quickly stuff progresses on the house front though.

Language

Here's where the action shots stop. We used real tools and objects for these works, and I, quite frankly, don't trust my kiddo not to quickly do something dangerous so I watched him very carefully as we did these works. Please use your own discretion if you choose to recreate these works. If you are still concerned about safety, print out multiple cards with the items and ask the child to match them instead. Alternatively, if you can find toy items, ask the child to match those. I like to use real objects, but am also able to watch my son.

Matching cards to each other

Our typical three part cards that I use as matching cards of course had to make an appearance.

Matching real items to cards

I made a lot of three part cards above, but I didn't want to get out each and every sharp, little object we had. 'Cuz my kid is fast and naughty. I presented five cards and five of the objects. We matched them together with very strict Mommy supervision.

Math

Numbers cards with manipulatives

Much better received than the above to be honest. My kiddo so prefers math to language works.
