WIAW and last Whole 30 update

Remember when I mentioned that huuuuge birthday bash that I was organising for my son. It's over now, but there was so much food. So much non-paleo food. And sadly, I only managed to photograph the sweets because it got hectic, crazy, and I had a house full of 12 rambunctious kiddos, and 20 ish adults.

What does all of this have to do with What I Ate Wednesday? or Whole 30? Well, a lot. You see, I knew that our party would be a cheat day. I was definitely excited to be eating things like this:

Double chocolate cookies

Or say three different types of cake.

I was expecting to get back on track on Saturday, but we obviously needed to finish off the loads of leftovers that had left two refrigerators absolutely stuffed because in true Russian style, I cooked enough to feed an entire village, not just my 30 guests. Yes, all 30 guests had dinner with us. I cooked every single dish, and most were completely from scratch.

And then there was Sunday. It was the Toddler's and my actual birthdays so we headed off to the racetrack to watch our friends complete with their race cars. We ate there - which meant deep fried snacks of gyros. Neither healthy let alone whole 30 approved. By the end of the day, my stomach was not happy, my energy was unbelievably low in spite of more cups of coffee than I care to count.

So that's three days of not Whole 30 food. By the time Monday morning rolled around, I was seriously regretting all of those snacks and meals. I felt so full that breakfast was completely neglected, and I stuck with my usual cup of coffee and nothing else. I needed a break from all of that food and was more than happy to give my belly a somewhat break.

Brunch

By about 11 am, I was getting hungry and prepped a simple sweet potato hash sans meat to keep things light.

Snacks

Loads of tomatoes:

A wild peach, and other assorted fruits

Dinner

Simple pan fried vegetables and a spinach meat loaf. It doesn't look as pretty as I was hoping, but it was fantastic! My in laws also had meatloaf for the first time.

So that's it. Whole 30 is also done. What now? Well, I'm not too sure. It was still really tricky to stick with it, and I'm thinking of giving paleo a rest for the remainder of our stay here. The next several months will be more hectic as walls start coming back up (hopefully), and floors are finally re-added in our home. I'm thinking that I'll shoot for a balance of 70-80 percent paleo and the rest not. Once that new kitchen is in place though... I can't wait to get back to full time paleo!
