Free Printables: Valentine's Day Number Matching

Want in on a secret? I'm just not that into Valentine's Day. My husband and I celebrate our anniversary exactly one week after Valentine's and the former has just slipped away from our radars. Sometimes we get cards for each other. Really it's just not a big deal to us. And it isn't a big deal in the Netherlands (where we live) either in general either.

With all of the heaviness that we've already had this year, I actually do want to do something light and fun for Valentine's Day though. It is a perfect reason to focus on love and the important folks in your life. Of course, for me, that translates to heart themed printables and heart themed works for our Montessori shelves! It's also a fun way for me to get back to my regular bloggy schedule!

The first work that I'm sharing is a simple preschool or toddler number matching activity! (The printable is available for free at the end of this post).

Valentine's Day Activities:

Number Matching Printables

Mr. Toddler has been loving numbers lately, and I frequently find him 'trying' to count various toys and other objects. I made a very simple heart themed printable for him to help him learn number symbols.

There are also several variations to do with this simple printable!

  • Leave one set of hearts whole as a mat. Cut out the hearts of another set. Ask your child to match the cut out hearts to the mat.
  • Cut out both sets and ask your child to match them to each other.
  • Create a memory game.
  • Have your child layout the cut out hearts in order, skip counting, larger number to smaller
  • Use manipulatives and ask your child to layout the corresponding quantity of manipulatives on each heart/underneath each heart, etc like this:

I kept the printables simple and focused on the number itself to keep my son focused and remove other distractions. The shape and colour stuck with our Valentine's theme.

I love that all of these activities can all be done with one simple printable. Mr. Toddler really got to explore his numbers in a fun way, while I sat back trying to quietly snap a few photos without him getting distracted.

Mr. Toddler's favourite version of this activity was matching the heart number cards to each other. I was actually astonished to watch him match each number correctly! And very quickly, too! He doesn't know what each number is yet though, but now I do have a very good idea of what we need to work on in the future!

Here ya go, you're own free Valentine's Number mat printables!
