WIAW: so that house that we still don't live in...

This is a pretty chatty post, so I'll just get straight to it. Here's the food that I ate on Saturday:

Breakfast


I have been waking up far beyond early lately. My goal usually is that by 4.30 in the morning, I have brushed my teeth, made coffee, and have 1 load of wash in the laundry machine. Sometimes that is pushed back until 5.30.

After I get all that done, I sit at the computer and try to get some work done.  You see, my crazy wake up time is totally justified by a ton of awesome projects that I have in the works. I can't tell you yet, but be excited folks! 

Due to that obnoxiously early wake up time, I am usually not hungry first thing in the morning. I end up drinking a few cups of coffee which I have taken to having with whole milk (the past few days). Almond milk doesn't cut it anymore, and I never cared much for coconut milk in my coffee so whole milk is my third choice I suppose. Ever since my pregnancy over two and a half years ago, I just can't find a permanent way to drink my coffee... and enjoy it.

Every other week, I try to make it out to the larger market in the city. I stock up on loads of fruits and veggies then. I only buy dates and avocados at the market and hope that they will last us two weeks rather than two days. I 'snack' on dates as my 'pre-breakfast' and Mr. Toddler inhales avocados during his breakfast. 

Anyway, that is my typical breakfast until the little man is up. My love of smoothies has returned and I swapped my typical eggs with veg for a green smoothie with kale, kiwi, bananas, ice and chia seeds. All from the market except the ice because ... well obviously.

Lunch


In the late morning, I pack up Mr. Toddler and we head our way over to our house. The one we don't live in yet. We have a caravan with a stove top and fridge there that we use for cooking, and now that it's warmer, we've started sleeping there on Saturday night.

For lunch, I packed something quick - leftover this:

Because we were at the house, a pretty food photo was not happening. The photo above was from the first day I made it, but the In fact, let's ignore the poor quality of dinner down below. But really, there's a good reason for that. 

Saturdays are busy days because we work our behinds off on our not-so-finished house. Even Mr. Toddler likes to checkout the progress:

He's obviously thinking - get those roof tiles on the roof so we can move in already and I can plaaayyy here all the time. Disappointment with his parents not being able to work quickly enough. And then after nap time, BAM:

A finished roof! Yay! Yay! Yay! That wooden contraption was built to make working on the roof a bit easier. It can be taken down now and we can get on with fixing up the inside! And then we can finally enjoy this in the summer:

That's where the garden will be. We have another chunk of land where we'll make a play area for Mr. Toddler and another part that will be a lounging around area for the adults. I am so excited. For now, the remaining two bits are covered with construction supplies. 

Actually, here's a bit that's not covered - we have this beautiful chestnut tree in our backyard. While we were having a break outside, I noticed that it seems like the tree is getting some visitors:

There's a bird's nest! We haven't seen the actual birds, but the neighbour's chickens have most definitely escaped and hung out in the tree. How do chickens even get up there?! 

Oh this was a WIAW post? So we should be talking about food, right? Getting back on track... 

Dinner


So dinner. We ate in the caravan. I cooked it in the caravan. We have no running water in the caravan. So cooking is always interesting. I also didn't feel like having anything that I had planned so I made a random concoction of veggies and sausage and spices. We were super tired after the roof was finished and super excited.

Clearly, I didn't end up eating much before dinner. And then I was starving. I had a big ole plate of this, along with a huge primal salad - goat's cheese, olives, greens, green onion, and some spices. 

We finished off the night with a glass of wine for me (or two...), a beer for the husband, and some chocolate. I then proceeded to fall asleep somewhere between 20 and 21 whilst my husband and I were watching a movie... err... my husband was watching a movie, I slept. 

And then the toddler was up. And he was up again. And then again about 3 more times. Usually the kiddo sleeps through the night so I was very glad I had been able to sleep a bit before constant wake ups. And that was the end of Saturday!
