Nature exploration round up

My 3 year old loves exploring nature. All he needs is a pile of dirt, rocks, leaves and probably a few cars and he can keep occupied for hours.

I think it's so important to let him have time in nature, but now that it's fall here in the Netherlands, we get so much rain. Rain + wheelchair + a preschooler doing whatever can tend to get a bit much so we try to go out and about during the few moments of the year when it's dry outside.

However, that doesn't mean that nature play and exploration stops just because of the rain. Here are over thirty lovely nature exploration activities from Welcome to Mommyhood as well as many other wonderful blogs out there!

Pumpkin cutting printables

Y is still absolutely loving using his scissors! The kiddo can sit for half an hour cutting up strips of scrap paper, the cutting strips I make, tissue paper, etc. I love seeing the concentration on his face as he practices!

Today, I am sharing some fun pumpkin themed cutting strips, inspired by the season!

Owl shape matching

Y loves shapes and counting. The frequently tells me that he sees a parallelogram (a difficult word for a 3 year old!) or that something is a triangle. He's not always correct, but he gets it right most of the time.

I really love seeing Y's interest in shapes and try to give him more opportunities to practice. Today, I'm sharing our latest go at practicing shapes - a fun match the owl to the tree printable!

Free transportation number cards

Y is totally obsessed with all things transportation! I can't help but add new transportation or vehicle themed activities to our shelves constantly. These types of works are such an easy way to spark his interest in practicing various skills repeatedly.

Using objects, images, manipulatives, etc that kids have a particular interest in is a great way to bring new life into a work that may have been previously skipped over.

For example, Y loves to count, but I can only present counting cards so many times before they get dull to him. It's not per se that he no longer has a sensitive period for counting, but that I have a role in providing him new and interesting opportunities for working on this skill.

That is why I try to think of new and engaging ways that he can do that - whether it's new ways to practice counting, new ways to practice pouring, letters, etc.

As we are continuing down our path towards learning numbers and counting, I am sharing a new freebie! Here are some fun transportation themed counting cards featuring airplanes, boats, and more!

Bringing nature into (fall themed) homeschool activities

Bringing nature into fall themed preschool activities by Welcome to Mommyhod #montessori, #homeschool, #nature, #preschoolactivities

I love fall. There's just something about the changing of the seasons, the beautiful colours, tea, scarves and pumpkin pie spice that just makes me feel cozy and warm.

When it comes to our homeschool lessons, I jump on any opportunity to bring in the beauty of autumn into our lessons. There are so many wonderful opportunities to learn using simple objects that can be found outdoors in your backyard or under a tree! I love the ease of it, and most importantly, Y adores anything related to nature and the outdoors!

Today, I am sharing a few simple ways to add some elements from nature into your lessons!

Apple themed printable pack

Fall is the perfect time to learn about apples! My in laws have a lovely garden (they live on what used to be a farm). Luckily for us, we get to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables from their garden, which includes the fruit from several apple trees.

I really love that Y gets to not only eat such fresh foods, but also that he gets exposed to such great opportunities for learning! Inspired by the apple trees in my in laws backyard, today I am sharing a very cute and fun apple themed printable pack!

Birthday gift ideas for a 3 year old

I can't believe that three years ago today, my little man was born! The little guy has been such an amazing blessing and I have loved watching him grow!

He loves all things that move, and adores tinkering and taking things apart. Putting them back together is a skill he is still working on though.

In honour of my little guy, I put together a gift guide for three year old boys! Specifically, these are inspired by the types of toys Y has been gravitating to as well as toys that my husband and I would feel good about getting for him.

I recently shared our fun Farm themed printables! Today, I am sharing the practical life and fine motor activities that Y will be working on this month! A lot of these were also inspired by our farm theme (a special post for our hands on farm activities will be live soon).

Here is a look at some really fun ways to get those little hands working and minds engaged!
