Hands on letter I Activities for kids

Welcome back to the Letter of the Week series! First off, I'd like to make a few announcements because I owe all of you following along a HUGE apology. The kiddo and I have been so ill for the past two weeks that I have fallen behind on this series! After a trip to urgent care, and being generally unable to do much of anything, blogging just went onto the back burner. I'm very sorry!

I'm starting to get back to feeling relatively normal and have started working on new content, not only for Letter of the Week, but general content for the blog. Yay!

As far as catching up, here's what you can expect for the next week in order to get us back on schedule:

Today: Letter I hands on activities
Tuesday 2 February: Letter J book recommendations
Friday 5 February: Letter J Printables
Tuesday 9 February: Letter J activities

By next Friday, I plan to be caught up, assuming that Y and I are both feeling back okay. Letter J printables are already done and I am very anxious to share those with you!

Today, I am sharing some really fun letter I activities in the next set in the Letter of the Week Series hosted by myself and Amruta from Mumma Diaries! Be sure to visit Amruta's blog and youtube channel to see all of the wonderful activities she shares!

Making icicles

We used silver pipe cleaners, white beads, and our DIY sandpaper numbers for this work. I had numbers 0-5 out.

Y had to place the sandpaper numbers in order from 0-5. Then, he would go through each number, say what it is, and trace it with his finger. Lastly, he had to place the corresponding quantity of beads onto the pipe cleaners.

We practiced number quantities 0-9, as well, using cotton balls to represent ice/snow used for igloos? Y is so sensitive for counting, and he wants to practice them in both English and Russian. So we end up counting. A lot.

Making an igloo

We used foam blocks and tooth picks to make igloos! I had more of the blocks, but Y decided to break them apart to make 'pancakes'. Mkay child. So we used what we had and made mini igloos.

Tracing or cutting practice

I leave this one up to Y. He can choose to trace or cut out the igloos. I keep an empty bucket for the rubbish in case Y choose to cut apart the igloos. Usually, it's definitely the scissors over the pencil.

Letter I puzzle and gluing practice

You can choose to laminate and velcro this work (using again the printables from the Letter I pack). I like to present this as a gluing work as Y has so much fun with it. We always hang these up on display!
