Y loves books, and I sure love a good theme! So what's better than combining the two? Here, I am sharing 8 wonderful books for helping little ones learn to count as well as a guide to activities and items you can use as extension!

I've been spending quite a lot of time reflecting on the type of books I like to buy for Y. Because of my injury, we just don't have the time and means to go to the library as often anymore. That means it's very important for me to purchase good quality kids books.

I've written about it here quite a few times, but Y is really into counting at the moment. He wants to count cars in English, count fruits in Russian, count stars, count chairs, etc. Count everything. That has inspired me to go on the hunt for some awesome counting books (appropriate for toddlers and preschoolers).

These books can be a fun way to reinforce numbers and counting. Because I love themes, I've also included several items that you can use to enhance learning using these books.

If you're going to pick up just one of the books mentioned here - I have to say, the first one: My Very First Book of Numbers by Eric Carle is absolutely wonderful. It's very hands on and the child has to match the numbers with the number quantity. It's 'nifty' and inexpensive!

If you only want to buy two, I'd also go with the Charley Harper's 123s. That book is just beautiful and I looove the imagery!

But really, all of these books are wonderful and a fun way to reinforce counting, number order, and number quantity.
