Hands on Letter Mm Activities

Welcome back to Letter of the Week! I'm finally trying to catch up with showing you guys our hands on letter Mm activities! This week was really quite full of hands on learning and Y really loved a lot of the trays.

I have to admit though that there were 2 that particularly caught his attention that the kiddo was very eager to work on repeatedly! I was very happy to see his enthusiasm for learning, but that also meant I was late to changing our trays and hence still haven't showed you guys our space themed works! I'll be catching up on those, as well this week/early next week, but Friday 25 March will be a Letter N related post!

For now, let's checkout the letter m activities!

Letter M

Cutting and pasting capital and lower case letters. Y enjoyed this, but was of course, quickly done with this. We have had a lot of practice using works like this, and I'm not sure that he still needs this types of works for the scissor or gluing practice. I will still include this style in the printable packs for you guys however!

A Letter M matching mat. This printable is available in English as well as the Russian version available below. You can download your version for free from my Letter M printables post

A simple M is for mouse mat. You can use dot markers for this work, but we tend to use these gem stones to keep this work re-doable.

Make a letter M! For this one, I didn't get a photo of the presentation before Y very eagerly set out to work! The idea was to make a letter M using construction paper pieces I had presented in a bowl for him. After he did that, he wanted to make another letter (the Russian г you see next to the m).

Cut and paste musical notes. Again, Y was not as into this work as before so I need to come up with other ways to engage him.

Pre-writing

Y has been very, very, verrrryyy interested in writing. I figured we should start with the basics and learn the movements of writing a line etc and created a prewriting tracing practice. Y was properly upset with me for this work. No joke guys. He brought it to me and said, 'Mama, this isn't a letter M. It's wrong. I want to learn the letter M.'

...

Yep. That happened. So, the Letter N printable pack will most definitely include a Letter N tracing work.

M is for magnets

Y loved this one the most! I bought a set of magnets recently and saved them specifically for this work. Y was so intrigued by the magnets and pulled this work daily.

I presented one bowl with the magnets and another bowl with assorted objects from around the house. Some were magnetic and some were not. Y got to test whether the objects were magnetic or not.

Pouring

I presented a flour pouring work as that worked in Russian, but you could offer a milk pouring work for the English variant. I also presented a funnel for an extra challenge.

M is for music

Y got to explore assorted musical instruments with our music bin. This was another favourite that he kept going back to repeatedly. Out of all the instruments, the harmonica was his absolute favourite.

He also explored the names of musical instruments using our instruments cards!

Extra activities

We did end up doing a little bit more than what is shown here because of our Russian theme. In Russian, hammer, bear, and ice cream all start with M!

I used the ice cream printables from the Letter I printables pack I shared earlier. Y really loves making homemade ice cream so not only did we practice counting with the printables, we had a wonderful hands on experience making homemade ice cream with his daddy! For the the ice cream, we simply used an ice cream mold and froze a puree consisting of frozen berries, greek yogurt, milk, and a banana. It's essentially a smoothie!

I also presented a hammering work with pegs and a block of florist foam. It was a wonderful hands on work that Y absolutely loved!

Lastly, we had a bear washing work using an animal figurine. A mouse figurine would also work for the English version.
