I'm so excited to be starting our weather unit! Y has been so fascinated with rain and all sorts of weather phenomena! To start off, I made some Montessori Weather 3 part cards that I am sharing today!
You can use these cards in the traditional way for children that can read. They can then be presented using a 3 part card wooden tray. The idea is for a child that can read to match the label cards to the image cards. Afterwards, the child checks his or her work by also matching the control cards to the labels and images.
Alternative for children who cannot read
Y can is still working on learning letter sounds, so we do not use these as 3 part cards. I simply print the control cards twice for him and ask him to match the images.
Before he does that, I give him a 3 step lesson to teach any new vocabulary terms to him. Afterwards, we have a discussion if he has any questions or wants a more in depth explanation. This type of work is great for building vocabulary and introducing new terms.
With Y, because he is starting to get a solid grasp on letter sounds, I actually think we will start using 3 part cards soon! The beauty of these cards is that children that cannot read yet, can match the letters on the control card to the label cards. To do this, I will ask him to first layout a control card, and match the remaining cards to the control. This makes for more practice with recognising letters for us.
