DIY number cards for toddlers

Counting cards are a great way to practice number order and number quantity for young kids. With Y, we started practicing counting and number recognition from an early age, since he was around two years old.

Today, I want to show you a quick way to make some DIY number cards for helping your child to practice counting while adding a fun, hands on component!

Toddler Activities:

DIY Counting Cards

Age: 2+ (this depends on how you want to present this work and your child's level, see below!)

Why: This work is a great way to practice counting, number quantity, and strengthen hand muscles.

How to set up

Gather your materials!
  • A marker
  • Small pieces of paper
  • A hole puncher (we used one in the shape of a heart)

Write a number on each card! If your child is old enough, you could even leave dotted lines for him or her to trace!

Place the cards back onto the tray, alongside the hole puncher. I also like to offer a bowl or plate that any rubbish can go onto.

That's it! Now, your child can practice number order by laying out the cards in order. Then, have him or her make the corresponding quantity of holes in each card.

Y loved works like these when he was younger and even now he continues to enjoy the hands on approach! They are such a fun and simple way to practice counting and number quantity!
