Baby activities: socks for movement

Now that baby Natasha is already almost four months old, she's really starting to move around a lot. I am sure to give her many opportunities to explore her body and move around freely. With such a young baby, this is very easy as I place her in her movement area and simply let her be.

It's so beautiful to watch her explore her body, and move different parts of it. Really, she can be very content to do this for quite long periods of time - even half an hour! Of course, at some point, big brother comes over to her and starts talking to her and giving her kisses, disruption her concentration, but that's a story for a different day!

Today, I want to show you a simple little DIY project you can put together to encourage movement in a young baby.

Baby movement activities: DIY jingle socks

Age: Newborn+ (3-6 months I would say)
Why: Socks like this are simply a fun way to encourage movement in a baby. It is very important for little babies to have many opportunities to move about freely for their healthy development.

These little bell socks just add a little bit of intrigue to their movements. When baby kicks his/her legs, the bells will chime. This can encourage baby to move his or her legs again to hear the bells. It's very simple, and fun for baby!

What you need

  • bells
  • 1 pair of baby socks
  • 1 needle
  • White thread (whatever colour matches your socks)

Sew the bells on to the socks. Done. Really, that's it.

Just sew the bells onto the socks using the needle and thread and you have a wonderful baby activity! Babies are easy, right? Just kidding, we all know that's not true, but this is a really simple and fun 'activity' you can make for your little one.

Natasha  loves hers and I could see she was very intrigued by the strange sound that rang every time she kicked her feet.

She quickly decided that she preferred to practice rolling to her side though.

I can't believe how quickly this little gal is starting to turn over! I know she'll be on the move rolling over and crawling before I know it. In the meantime, I love watching her enjoy laying down in her movement area and enjoying getting to know her body.
